Are You Putting Me On?

What is one of the first things you do to prepare for the day before going out and taking on the world?  Well, you get dressed.  Sometimes hastily, sometimes very purposefully, depending on your mission for the day or who you expect to encounter.

Turns out, our day-to-day routines are a snapshot of our overall approach to life.  Are you being purposeful about what you’re putting on in preparation for success?  I’m not giving you the age-old “dress for success” advice here.  It’s better than that.

Writing to a group of fellow believers, Paul encouraged them to “dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline.  And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.”

Similarly, in writing to another group, Paul famously encouraged them to “put on the full armor of God.  Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get.”

This theme of putting on the attributes of God or the provisions God has laid out for us demonstrates several key points:

  • We need to know they are available
  • We get to make the choice to put them on
  • We need to do it in PREPARATION, not in reaction to the circumstances of the day
The brilliant scientist, Louis Pasteur wrote:  “Fortune favors the prepared mind.”  His reference was in the context of scientific discovery, in that if unprepared or unaware, a researcher might not recognize the importance of what is happening right in front of him.
Start your day prepared for success.  Make a choice to “put on” the right mindset.  Your fortune awaits.
